The Lighthouse Childcare

Play-Based and Child-Centered

iIt is the philosophy of The Lighthouse Childcare that children be encouraged to learn and grow by providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences where all children can succeed in a safe and nurturing environment. We believe that each child is a unique individual and that all children can learn. Our childcare program provides an inclusive setting that recognizes children's varied abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles. We believe children learn best through meaningful play. Our play-based, child-centered program reflects the integration of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, self-help and aesthetic areas for the total development of the child. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem-solving that allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image. We recognize that parents are the child's first teachers. Children learn best when parents are involved in their educational program..

Our Story

The Lighthouse Childcare is owned and operated by the Hays First Presbyterian Church.  A Board of Directors oversees the operation of the program.  The board oversees the program director, as well.  The program is licensed by Kansas Department of Health and Environment as a group day care home in a commercial setting.  We have been certified by the State of Kansas with License No. 0080121, since October 1, 2020.  Our classroom space was formerly rented to Happy Days Childcare who operated for 18 years before transferring operation to the Church.  Two separate CARES grants made renovation and upgrades to the preschool room and playground possible at the end of 2020.  Additional funding was received from the following grants: Heartland Community Foundation; Child Care Aware Health Initiative; Child Care Aware Sustainability Grants 1 & 2; Midwest Energy.
